QUETTA: Customs Enforcement Quetta is pursuing a rigorous anti-smuggling campaign against smuggling of urea to Afghanistan and seized 323 tons of urea since January 15, 2022.
On the directives of Collector Dr. Fareed and Additional Collector Moin Afzal, Assistant Collector Shafiullah has tightened the vigilance and strengthened the intelligence network, which resulted in seizure of large quantity of precious urea being smuggled to neighboring country.
The above mentioned quantity of fertilizer was detected and seized at various Check Posts including Darakhshan, Lakpas, Surab, Nuttal check post, Manikhawa check post and Dalbandin check posts.
According to details, Assistant Collector Shafiullah alerted the In-charges of the check posts to increase monitoring. Resultantly, Customs Checkpost Manikhwa seized 150 urea bags coming from Multan to Quetta. Value of the goods is Rs750,000
ASO Squad headed by Incharge Lakpass in two different operations seized 870 bags of urea valuing Rs42.5 million.
An official said in pursuance of directive of Chief Collector Baluchistan, Collector Quetta and Ministry of Interior’s instructions, the Enforcement staff led by Assistant Collector Shafiullah was making further efforts to impact the rising smuggling trend of fertilizer.
Moreover, Customs staff Dalbandin recovered 320 bags of DAP fertilizer Australia origin and 160 bags of urea (480 bags total) from a bus. In another incident, Customs Checkpost Nauttal foiled the attempt of urea smuggling under the garb of sugar and wood from interior Sindh to Quetta. Two 10 wheeler truck were detained loaded with 1000 urea bags worth Rs50 million.
Further, ASO Squad Surab intercepted and seized 550 of urea bags valuing Rs27.50 million loaded on 10 wheeler truck which was consigned from Hub to Quetta.
As per orders of Collector, vigilance has been beefed up to contain smuggling abroad of essential commodities. In another case, Check Post Surab intercepted another 10 wheeler truck loaded with 610 bags valuing Rs30.50 million consigned from Shahdad Kot Sindh to Qalat.
The seized goods were handed over to the district management for further proceedings.
