KARACHI: Customs Quetta seized 4.33 million liters of smuggled fuel worth Rs305.58 million during the year 2020-21 compared to previous year 2019-20 where 1.021 million liters of fuel worth Rs77.47 million were recovered, an increase of over 300 percent.
Upon directions of Federal Board of Revenue and Chief Collector Balochistan Gul Rehman to intensify the anti-smuggling drive, especially against fuel products, Collector Customs Quetta Irfan Javed and Deputy Collector Akbar Jan launched a crackdown on smuggled goods.
This is very big achievement. Remember this huge quantity of POL is recovered within the first six months while after January 2021, oil smuggling has been completely stopped after strict directions of FBR and steps taken by MCC Quetta enforcement and compliance.
An official said elimination of smuggling was at the heart of the federal budget. Prime Minister Imran Khan has put special emphasis on anti-smuggling efforts to ensure inflows of legitimate revenues and support local businesses.
