KARACHI: Collector Port Qasim Ashad Jawwad said the retiring officers start a new phase in their lives. “We express our gratitude for the retiring officers, but departure of such officers is creating a vacuum, and it is not easy for the new comers to fill this void.”
He said a policy should be framed enabling the retiring Principal Appraisers and Appraising Officers train the new comers at the training academy.
He was addressing the farewell ceremony of Appraising Officer Noor Elahi at Port Qasim.
Born in 1960 in Sahiwal, Noor Elahi graduated from Govt. College Sahiwal followed by L.L.B from Karachi University. He joined Customs in 1986 as a Examining Officer and worked as an Examiner in various sections of Appraisement Collectorates/PQ and Directorate of Intelligence & Investigation. He was promoted as a Appraising Officer in 2008 and worked as A.O. in Appraisement West/East and PQ Karachi . Noor Elahi detected a number of cases of evasion of customs duty and taxes and recovered millions of rupees for the national exchequer.
Ashad Jawad urged the new appraising officers to learn from the experiences of their senior appraising officers. He also urged the appraising officers close to retirement that they should focus their energies in training the new comers.
Jawad said farewell ceremonies were a norm, but it was discontinued due to Covid-19. He said it was pleasant to have organized such a ceremony.
Collector Port Qasim Exports Fawad Ali Shah said senior principal appraisers and appraising officers impressed me with their dedication and commitment to their jobs.
Additional Collectors Ali Zaman Gardezi, Javed Sarwar Sheikh, Mushtaq Shahani; Assistant Directors Shahid Hussain Rizvi, Khalid Umar; Assistant Director (Retd) Muzaffar Rizvi, and many others including Noor Ellahi Khan, Mohammed Salah Kalhoro, Aftab Iqbal, Mohboob Doud Vohra, Muneer Ahmed Brohi and Mohammed Idrees Khaskheli etc were present.
Principal Appraiser Manzoor Rajpar organized the event. He also introduced the officers/officials and appreciated their services for the department as well as the country.
