HYDERABAD: Customs Intelligence and Investigation Hyderabad has seized large quantity of smuggled garments and mobile phones along with the transporting vehicle at National Highway.

Following the directives of Abdul Rasheed Sheikh, Director General, Directorate General of Intelligence & lnvestigation-FBR (Customs) Islamabad to curb the menace of smuggling, the Director, Dr. Sadiqullah Khan, Regional Directorate of Intelligence & Investigation (Customs), Hyderabad instructed the staff ASO and SIU Wings headed by Syed Muhammad Raza Naqvi, Deputy Director, to keep extra vigilance in particular against the organized smuggling of goods.

The Incharge, Special Investigation Unit (SIU) was already instructed/directed to conduct active surveillance on the movements of suspected foreign origin goods.

Consequently, pursuing a source report that consignments of smuggled goods would be transported from Faislabad to Karachi via National Highway, the team of SIU of the Directorate successfully executed an operation and apprehended a Mazda Mini Truck from National Highway near Qazi Ahmed district Shaheed Benazirabad. Cursory checking revealed that the truck was loaded with cartons of foreign origin readymade garments. During unloading of these cartons, another six cartons of foreign origin branded/expensive Mobile Phones were also found.

The team of SIU took over the possession of the truck loaded with smuggled goods into custody and brought to the office of the Directorate. The driver has been arrested and FIR has also been lodged.

The value of the seized goods along with Mazda Mini Truck is Rs23.976 million. The Director appreciated the efforts of ASO and SIU Wings of this Directorate who are working tirelessly day & night under the supervision of recently posted Additional Director Jamshed Ali Talpur.
