KARACHI: The files are piling up at Ministry of Law and Justice as Pakistan has no Law Minister since June 01 when Dr Farogh A Naseem stepped down on the “request of Prime Minister” to represent the federal government in the Presidential Reference against Justice Qazi Faez Isa.
The ex-Minister also faced contempt proceedings in the case. Anwar Mansoor Khan, then Attorney General Pakistan also resigned after annoyance expressed by court during hearing of the case.
The petitions including one filed by Justice Qazi Faez Isa were allowed on Friday, June 19 by a majority decision with only one judge dissenting and dismissing petition filed by Justice Isa.
Farogh Naseem also stepped down in 2019 to represent federal government in a petition pertaining to the issue of extension in service to General Bajwa. The apex court allowed the government to accord extension but conditionality of amending relevant laws (which never existed).
Dr Farogh rejoined the cabinet within next two days. This time however his rejoining is delayed.
The delay is causing piling up of work as Law Ministry is one of the most important ministries of the federal setup. The Ministry is in process of amending laws and land mark changes in present adversarial proceedings system.
