KARACHI: The appointment of Member Customs (Operation) is delayed because of difference of opinion between Chairperson Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Nausheen Amjad and Secretary Revenue Division Nadeem Kamran Baloch.

Revenue (FBR) has to announce the appointments of officers on the seats of Member Customs (Operation), Member Inland Revenue (Operation) and Member Admin (FBR). Member Customs (Policy) will also be changed.

A meeting chaired by Advisor on Finance Abdul Hafeez Shaikh with Chairperson FBR Nausheen Amjad and Secretary Revenue Division Nadeem Kamran was convened last week to decide the appointments on these sensitive posts.

Sources said there was a difference of opinion between Nausheen Amjad and Nadeem Kamran, due to which these appointments were delayed.

Hafeez Sheikh had left these appointments on Nausheen Amjad and Nadeem Kamran. However, consensus could not be developed. Nadeem Kamran is in favor of Tariq Huda while Nausheen Amjad is favoring Abdul Rasheed Shaikh for Member Customs Operations.

It may be mentioned here that Chairperson FBR used to have charge of Secretary Revenue Division as well, but so far this charge is not given to Nausheen Amjad.

Tariq Huda and Abdul Rasheed Shaikh are the two candidates for the office of Member Customs (Operation).

Chairperson FBR Nausheen Amjad is also authorized to make postings and transfers to fill BS-20 and BS-21 positions with the consult of Members, and this would be done by April 25, 2020.

Sources said some Chief Collectors would also be reshuffled. TheseĀ  appointments are likely in a couple of days.
