KARACHI: Anti-smuggling Organization (ASO) of MCC Preventive Karachi has recovered 7.5 tons of Chinese salt (Ajinomoto) from a warehouse at Trans Lyari hawks bay road in Karachi. The value of the seized goods is Es2.3254 million.
Information was received through Collector Saquif Saeed to the effect that a considerable quantity of foreign origin smuggled Chinese Salt (Ajinomoto) has been dumped at a warehouse at Trans Lyari Hawks Bay Road, and would likely be removed from that premises shortly.
Pursuant to the said information, Additional Collector Haroon Mailk constituted a team headed by the Deputy Collector Muhammad Asim Awan and comprising Superintendent Jamal Zia, IPS Iftikhar Hasan and others to conduct the raid and search accordingly.
The team reached on the spot and mounted surveillance at the identified place. As there was specific information with regard to storage of smuggled foreign origin restricted Chinese Salt, it was considered inevitable to conduct the search of the premises instantly after following the legal procedure as envisaged under the law.
Since there was no one to claim the ownership of the warehouse and goods. The warehouse was searched which revealed the presence of 300 PP bags containing Chinese Salt (Ajinomoto), which is prohibited to be imported in Pakistan for being hazardous to human health.
An FIR is lodged and investigations are underway.
