KARACHI: The Corps Commander, Balochistan, Lt. Gen. Muhammad Waseem Ashraf HI (M), has fully supported the plan of setting up a Special economic Zone (SEZ) at Hub, Balochistan for creating new opportunities of economic and industrial activities besides providing employment to the people of the province. He was speaking to the office bearers and industrialists at Lasbela Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI) as a chief guest on Wednesday. He urged that functioning of Lasbela Industrial Estate Development Authority (LIEDA), should be improved in order to create an investment environment in District Lasbela by way of providing proper infrastructure facilities to the existing industrial establishments as well as to facilitate the potential investors.

He however, was very optimistic about the economic development of Balochistan particularly its industrialization ensuring the creation of job opportunities and revenue generation. He was very king to encourage the business community of Lasbela and LIEDA Management by way of extending the help of his good offices for rehabilitation of LIEDA and revamping of infrastructure of Hub Industrial Area and also the setting up of SEZ at Hub as soon as possible.

Ismail Suttar, President LCCI in his briefing informed the Corps Commander about the potential of District Lasbela with regard to investment opportunities in the well organized and the only Industrial Area of Balochistan and in the wake of Special Economic Zone (SEZ) under the CPEC prospective. He further informed that the Lasbela Industrial Estate Development Authority (LIEDA), the provider of infrastructure, is in very crises situation and is not able to properly deliver their services. He stressed that being an important institution it needs help for its rehabilitation, provided the institution plays its role honestly, intelligently and transparently, while appropriately curtailing its non-development expenditure.

Prior to this explanation of President LCCI, the Managing Director, LIEDA have briefed about the constraints hindering the smooth functioning of LIEDA and sought help of the Corps Commander in order to reactivate LIEDA to achieve its objectives.
