KARACHI: Hearing a constitutional petition filed by an importer who brought in a consignment of Red Kidney Beans from Africa, a customs appellate bench of High Court of Sindh ordered plant quarantine department to take samples.
The bench earlier expressed extreme annoyance over an application for an urgent hearing filed by the petitioner/importer and said case was already heard and next date given why application for urgent hearing was filed.
The counsel for petitioner referring to the order passed on a previous date submitted that respondent department is not implementing the order and if samples were not taken in time, it will be declared unfit.
A representative from plant quarantine department appearing in the case submitted that the consignment was imported from banned area and normally it develops “fungus” which makes it unfit for human consumption.
The quarantine department be asked to take samples immediately and this is our only prayer and the urgency, the counsel for petitioner submitted.
The bench then ordered the plant quarantine to do the needful while March 04 was fixed as next date of hearing.
