KARACHI: Pakistan Tax Bar Association (PTBA) has moved the Director of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for registration of a FIR against culprit (s) involved in circulating fake circular regarding extension of last date for submission of Income Tax Returns up to Jan 31, 2020.
The General Secretary of PTBA Farhan Shehzad asked registration of FIR under Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2016 as well as Pakistan Penal Code on ground that circular eroded the reputation of FBR and tax bars of the country.
It said that Income Tax Consultants and their staff was busy in filing the returns on last day but suddenly a fake circular was received through Whatsapp. The television channels also aired the same without confirmation becoming a tool for spreading fake circular widely which would cause hardship to filers.
It is worth mentioning that such episode occurred first time and no denial was issued by the FBR which has the sole authority to issue such circulars or notifications.
