KARACHI: Customs Quetta raided a warehouse at Suryab Road the other day and recovered smuggled betel nut and cloth worth Rs170 million.
On the directives of Finance Minister Hafeez Shaikh and Chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Syed Shabbar Zaidi, Pakistan Customs is observing a rigorous anti-smuggling campaign.
Suryab Road is considered to be a sensitive area, therefore Customs conducted the operation with the assistance of FC and Police.
Collector Dr. Iftikhar formed a team comprising Additional Collectors Jameel Baloch, Yasir Kalwar, Deputy Collector Chaudry Imran Afzal Lillah, Assistant Collector Saleem Tahir and Inspectors Shahzad Akhtar, Aslam Solangi, Arif Dotani and Ishaq Georgo.
The team after doing complete homework raided the warehouse and recovered 150 NT of betel nut and 15 MT of smuggled cloth. The goods were loaded on 11 trucks.
Customs has also tightened vigilance on Afghan Transit Trade (ATT), as the transit trade has been the biggest source of smuggling.
