KARACHI: Customs intelligence Quetta has seized 89,000 liters of smuggled Iran origin diesel worth million of rupees, as a rigorous crackdown against transportation of smuggled goods is underway.
Information was received through Director Chaudry Akram regarding attempted movement of smuggled diesel. Deputy Director Dr. Zohaib advised Intelligence Officer Hamid Habib and Customs Inspector Muhammad Shabbir Khan to keep strict vigilance on Quetta Eastern Bypass.
Subsequently, huge quantity of smuggled quantity was seized.
In May this year, the standing committee of Pakistan’s Senate was briefed that illegal smuggling of oil from Iran is causing the country’s national exchequer a loss of Rs60 billion annually.
Officials informed the Senate that the sale of diesel has declined by 1.4 million tons in the last 10 months due to increased smuggling from Iran through the Pak-Iran border and Sea.
