KARACHI: Hearing three identical petitions filed by importers of LED lights, parts and chandeliers, a customs appellate bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) on Monday ordered the collectorates concerned to process the goods declaration filed by the petitioners and to not to initiate criminal proceedings against them without recourse to law.

The bench comprising Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi and Justice Mahmood A Khan was hearing petitions filed by Jutt Lights, Liaby Traders and Rana Enterprises. A counsel from Franklin Law Associates representing the petitioners maintained that the imported items are covered under different Valuation Rulings.

The issue pertains to description of goods imported which conforms to documents produced before customs for clearance, the lawyer said complaining of harassment and threats of involvement in criminal cases.

The bench after hearing the counsel for petitioner while restraining from harassment also ordered that any action shall be based on concrete evidence and it shall follow hearing opportunity to the petitioners first.
