KARACHI: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) of Customs Intelligence & Investigation Karachi has seized two passenger buses loaded with smuggled goods worth Rs20.6 million.

In the wake of reports of smuggling of foreign origin goods from Quetta to Karachi. Director Irfan Javed formed a team of officers of ASO headed by Additional Director Ali Zaman Gardezi and comprising Deputy Collector Saad Rabbani, Superintendent Sikandar Khanzada and others to foil such attempts of transportation of the smuggled and non duty paid goods.

Accordingly, the constituted team along with staff of Manghopir Police Station mounted surveillance near Mygari Northern Bypass, Karachi. The team spotted and intercepted two suspected Hino passenger buses loaded with smuggled goods near Mygari Northern Bypass, Karachi.

Upon cursory checking, the passenger buses were found loaded and packed with huge quantity of foreign origin goods. There were no passengers on the buses. The drivers were asked to produce legal import documents in support of lawful import, possession transportation of goods. In response thereof, they failed to produce any documents on the spot.

Since, detailed examination was not possible on the spot therefore, the same were escorted to the office of the Directorate of l&I-Customs, Karachi for examination, recovery and weighment. The goods along with the goods have been seized and investigations are underway.
