KARACHI: A division bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi and Justice Zulfiqar Ahmed Khan on Wednesday deferred hearing in a petition against tax demand raised by Revenue Authorities.

The bench earlier heard Ajmad Javed Hashmi submitted that petitioner maintains ‘Goods Receipt Note’ in respect of goods procured. Normally the order is placed by telephone or other latest methods and once goods are arrived stringent measures are in place to monitor supply or delivery.

When the respondent authorities visited our place we have placed all relevant record before them, submitted the counsel for petitioner. There was no basis for taxation and hence respondents could not proceed for levy of tax, he further contended.

To a question by the bench he said that petitioner is not denying the factum of procurement of goods. To another question he said that he will inquire from his client about the “purchase orders” if any. Amjad Javed Hashmi sought time for filing the copies of purchase orders.

The bench allowing the request deferred further hearing till Oct 17.
