KARACHI: Saleem Parekh, President SITE Association of Industry, has expressed concerns over the non-supply of water to the industries of SITE for the last 2 months saying this would lead to closure of the industry. [the_ad id=”32940″]“Against the requirement of 40MGD and MD KWSB’s assurance to supply 8MGD, only 1.25 MGD water is being supplied to SITE industries while Hub dam is overflowing due to non-utilization of water. We fail to understand why industrialists are being penalized,” Parekh said in a statement.
He said many industrial units in SITE area had obtained connections from KWSB after paying huge connection charges. However the lines were dry and water was not being supplied through these lines.
“Almost all the units in area will be closed and thousands of people of will be jobless if water situation is not improved. It would also tarnish the image of Pakistan in international markets for not fulfilling the committed shipment dates”.
President SITE appealed to the Governor Sindh, Chief Minister of Sindh and Minister for Local Government to urgently intervene and save the SITE industries from total collapse.
“In a situation where dollar is fluctuating, interest rates and cost of doing business are increasing, how come industrialists concentrate on enhancing exports if the government and its departments fail to provide basic amenities to the industrialists for producing exportable goods.”
