PESHAWAR: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Peshawar has geared up the campaign against smuggling including smuggling of narcotics, and seized goods worth millions.
Information was received from Director Arslam Subuctageen to the effect that a sizeable quantity of narcotics would be smuggled from tribal area towards Punjab in a BedFord Truck.
In pursuance of the said information, the staff of Directorate of Intelligence & Investigation Peshawar held a check point at G.T. Road near Khairabad, District Nowshera. The suspected Bed Ford Truck coming from Peshawar was stopped. After cursory search the presence of drugs was detected in the back of the driver seat of the Bed Ford Truck.
The driver namely Zahoor Jan S/o Habib was taken into custody. The truck, along with the accused, was brought to Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation Peshawar where detailed search led to recovery of 11 Kg opium (gross). Value of the recovered drugs has been estimated as Rs13.2 million and that of the Bed Ford Truck at Rs3.0 million. FIR was lodged and investigation is in progress.
Moreover, the staff of the Directorate with the help of local Police impounded five Toyota Corolla cars loaded with foreign origin smuggled cloth.
These vehicles were, therefore, brought to the office of Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation Peshawar where thorough examination led to the recovery of 19606 yards cloth, which has been seized along with vehicles. The estimated value of the aforementioned seized cloth and vehicles is around Rs12.9 million.
