KARACHI: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has removed the ban on high-rise buildings in Karachi, Chief Association of Builders and Developers (ABAD) Hasan Bukshi said. The decision was announced at the hearing on Tuesday morning.
Previously in May 2017, Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) had issued a notice on construction of skyscrapers and multi-storey buildings, placing a ban on the ones that go beyond ground plus two stories.
As per the SBCA’s statement, the ban was placed due to a letter received from the Local Government Department in compliance with the Supreme Court’s orders. [the_ad id=”31605″] Association of Builders and Developers of Pakistan (ABAD) had been calling for the removal of ban on the construction of high rise buildings in Karachi city, Sindh province.
Supreme Court (SC) ruled recently that the ban imposed on construction of high-rise buildings in specific residential and commercial localities will remain in force in the metropolis. The SC banned construction of high-rise buildings in the urban centres citing water shortage.
More than 500 construction projects have stopped in the past 19 months, leading to the unemployment of nearly 1.5m skilled and unskilled people.

Furthermore, cement, tile and other 72 allied industries production sales dropped leading to serve recession, affecting her economy of Sindh and increasing the deficit in tax recoveries for the goverrnment which is already facing financial crunch.
