KARACHI: MCC Exports Port Qasim has blocked four trailer vehicles carrying plastic granules from Export Processing Zone (EPZ) to tariff area (local market) on information that plastic scrap was being smuggled in the garb of granules.

According to details reaching Customnews.pk, four trailer vehicles were moving from the premises of M/s Modern Plastic in EPZ, which were stopped on the directives of Collector MCC Exports Saifuddin Junejo, who has ordered examination of these vehicles loaded with plastic granules (Plastic dana).

Information was received to Collector Saifuddin Junejo that PVC crush was being transported in the garb of granules and layers of PVC crush were concealed under the granules. It may be mentioned here that Import Policy Order allows import of recycled granules but import of PVC crush is not allowed to be imported without the NOC of Environment Protection Agency (EPA) and industrial license.

It was also known that M/s Modern Plastic had installed a plastic crusher machine at its premises and the PVC crush was being transported in the cover of imported plastic granules.

To recall, Directorate of Customs Intelligence & Investigation Karachi this October booked several persons including Customs officials for dumping/storage of smuggled and non-duty-paid goods in the garb of import from KEPZ zone to tariff area through mis-declaration.
