KARACHI: A division bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Agha Faisal deferred hearing of an application seeking return of rupees 4.1 million deposited by an importer of a bullet proof car till August.

The bench heard counsel for applicant Jahanzaib Khan Burki who imported a BMW bullet proof car. The car was detained over valuation issue and was later released after deposition of security amount of rupees 4.1 million against disputed amount of duty and taxes.

The importer filed an appeal against the assessed value which ruled in favour of the appellant/importer.

The importer then through Ms Dil Khurram Shaheen advocate filed the instant petition for return of the surety amount.

As the bench took up the petition, Kafeel Abbasi, counsel for the Pakistan Customs Appraisement, West said that a Special Customs Reference Application (SCRA) challenging order of the Special Customs Appellate Tribunal is pending before the HC.

The bench after this statement deferred hearing of the application tagging it with the SCRA till August when court will re-open after summer vacations.
