KARACHI: Directorate of Customs Intelligence & Investigation Peshawar has foiled a bid to transport contrabands into the Punjab province and seized narcotics worth Rs1.9 million.
Information was received that narcotics would be smuggled to Punjab via G.T.Road. In anticipation, the ASO Drug Cell staff established a picket near Pabbi. G.T.Road, Nowshera. During the course, a suspected Daihatsu Coure Motor Car was seen coming from Peshawar side. It was signaled to stop but the driver ignored the signal and sped away. After chase by the staff, the driver of the car abandoned his vehicle and decamped from the spot.
Thereafter, the vehicle was searched on spot by the staff of Drug Cell and found Opium and Charas tactfully concealed in secret cavities especially designed into the CNG Tank of the car. The motor car was then brought to the premises of the Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation (Customs)-FBR, Peshawar where thorough search led to the recovery of 18 KG Opium and 01 KG charas which has been seized along with carrier vehicle.
The estimated value of the aforementioned seized narcotics and vehicle is Rs2.5 million (Narcotics: Rs.1.9 million and vehicle: Rs.0.6 million). FIR has been lodged and further investigation is underway.
