KARACHI: NAB has accepted the complaint regarding corruption of Director General Customs Intelligence & Investigation Shaukat Ali and a retired customs employee Mushtaq Sarghana and issued directives to appoint an inquiry officer.

The complaint is attached with documents regarding Shaukat Ali’s visits to Dubai on his business passport continuing foe years, copies of departmental inquiries pending against him since long and it prayed that an inquiry should be conducted into his bank accounts and other assets.

Mushtaq Sarghana is said to be a retired customs employee of Grade-16 who is the front man of Shaukat Ali and now runs warehouses. His assets are also said to be in hundreds of millions.

Earlier, the Court on a similar complaint by a Customs employee had advised Chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to conduct an inquiry into the matter and submit the report. Chairman FBR in his report has cleared Shaukat Ali of all charges and found the allegations as baseless, unsubstantiated and frivolous.

After which the complaint was submitted before the Chairman NAB, who accepted the compliant and issued directives to appoint an inquiry officer for further proceedings.
