KARACHI: An appellate bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising JusticeMunib Akhtar and Justice Mrs Ashraf Jahan ordered release of a consignment of artificial woven leather stuck up at Karachi port since many months due to sudden levy of Regulatory Duty.

The counsel for Franklin Law Associates represented petitioner Panatron Company Limited and submitted that consignment in dispute was sent to ware house. A SHC bench ordered ex-bonding of the goods after three Goods Declaration were filed. The counsel for petitioner said that water-house charges are multiplying as judgment in petitions challenging imposition of RD which has been reserved is pending announcement.

The delay would cause huge damage to the importer, pleaded the counsel. The bench afterhearing the sides as an interim measure ordered release of the consignments on payment of security equivalent to duty and taxes assessed by the respondent Pakistan Custom.
