I&I Rawalpindi seizes smuggled mobile phones

KARACHI: Customs Intelligence Rawalpindi has seized 1,000 mobiles phones from flight PK-212 at Islamabad Airport and arrested two persons namely Waseem Akhtar and Shabana khatoon. Approximate value of the seized goods is Rs20 million.

The passengers were cleared by Customs staff of MCC Islamabad. However, acting upon information Deputy Director Shahid Jan along with his staff caught them along with smuggled mobile phones just after going out from Arrival hall

Their passports bear multiple visits through Islamabad Airport. As per their statement Customs staff of the Islamabad Collectorate were in league. More arrests are likely by Rawalpindi Customs Intelligence as investigations are underway.

An official said Customs was committed to root out smuggling, which was adversely affecting the national economy as well as a source of funding anti-social elements.
