KARACHI: Directorate of Industries Sindh (Registration Wing) has advised Chief Election Commission Asif Mehmood of Karachi Customs Agents Association (KCAA) that the registered by-laws of the association do not permit any sort of recounting/reconciliation of the votes.
The Directorate has advised Chief Election Commission to refrain from conducting any sort of recounting and added the results announced by the election commission for KCAA election 2017-18 on September 17, 2017 were full and final.
Customs Agents Alliance (CAA) is of the view that no such letter had been received by them not even by the Chief Election Commission.
Haji Asif of CAA said the recounting of votes was the most viable decision and all the parties should accept the same.
Haji Asif said all the members of Karachi Customs Agents Association (KCAA) including members of both the panels should not increase the controversy. The decision of Chief Election Commission was in the best interest of the association and all should accept it.
The recounting/reconciliation of votes would start at 03:00 PM on Tuesday. Chief Election Commission has arranged video coverage of the entire process to avoid any further controversy.
Rizwan Kaka of Customs Agents Group (CAG) said the letter issued by Directorate of Industries Sindh (Registration Wing) had declared the recounting illegal and the Chief Election Commission should refrain from doing anything in violation of directives of Directorate of Industries Sindh (Registration Wing).
If the Chief Election Commission goes for recounting, CAG would decide its future course of action.
The general body meeting scheduled for September 28, 2017 is now uncertain to be held. It was known that unless the dispute is resolved, the current office bearers would continue to govern the KCAA.
