KARACHI: The anti-smuggling organization (ASO) of MCC Preventive has seized large quantity of foreign origin liquor an Acetic Anhydride (hazardous chemical) in two separate operations worth hundreds of millions of rupees.
Collector Preventive Dr. Iftikhar passed information to ASO that huge quantity of Acetic Anhydride would be moved from one warehouse to another. Acting on the information ASO team intercepted a vehicle at Liaquatabad bridge and recovered 3,000 KGs of harmful chemical Acetic Anhydride. An FIR has been lodged and investigations are underway.
Collector Dr. Iftikhar passed information that large quantity of foreign origin liquor would be transported to Karachi through sea routes. A team was formed comprising SPS Zahid Mehmood, SPOs Mian Iqbal Javed, Sardar Mohammad Yusuf, Shamim AKhtar, Manzoor Ahmed Khoso and sepoys.
The ASO team took a Customs boat named Bismillah to the seas. However, the boat’s engine failed at the maritime borders of Sindh and Baluchistan. The customs contacted Maritime Security Agency, which promptly responded to the call.
The boat of the smugglers was spotted and after exchange of fire the smuggled goods were seized, which include 12144 beer cans and 9026 liquor bottles worth millions of rupees. The smugglers however managed to flee. ASO with the assistance of Maritime Security Agency brought the Customs’ boat Bismillah and seized booty to the shores.
