KARACHI: A signal has been sent to the honest officers of Customs Intelligence & Investigation that if they perform their duty honestly and make seizures of smuggled goods, they would be immediately transferred.
This is exactly what happened with Deputy Director I&I Quetta Inamullah Wazir, who has been transferred to Directorate of Customs Intelligence Peshawar without and just cause. Wazir was removed despite the fact that Irfan Javed has quite recently assumed the office of Director I&I Quetta.
Despite being fresh in the office Irfan Javed has done a remarkable job seizing such a large quantity of smuggled goods.
Irfan Javed was brought to Quetta after Ashraf Ali was moved from the office of Director I&I Quetta as Ashraf Ali also was effective against smuggling.
Several other officials were also transferred absolutely against the pattern of transfers and postings prevailing at FBR.
Directorate of Customs Intelligence & Investigation, Quetta seized 22 trucks stuffed with foreign origin goods including sulphoric acid, skimmed milk, plastic shopping bags, whey powder and motor oil worth Rs111 million. The carrier vehicles have also been seized worth over Rs150 million approximately.
Deputy Director Inamullah Wazir had made these cases and the owner of these goods were given ample time to prove the legal ownership of the goods. However, they failed to provide any legal documents proving ownership of goods.
However, the transfer of Inamullah Wazir was notified on immediate basis.
However, before his departure, Wazir seized the goods and prepared a seizure report as per the rules and provisions of Law.
Sources said Director General I&I Shaukat Ali is over-using his authority transferring and posting the staff, who does not say yes to his illegal directives.
It may be recalled that two officials of Customs Intelligence & Investigation have already approached courts against the wrongdoings of Director General Shaukat Ali.
