KARACHI: On information of the Director I&I Peshawar, staff of Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation Peshawar intercepted a truck fully loaded with smuggled cigarettes and cigars with the assistance of Nowshera Police in cantt area G.T Road.
The truck was destined to Rawalpindi from Khyber agency, according to statement of the arrested driver.
The cigarettes are Milano, Pine, Napoli, Zen and cigars made in Netherlands and USA. A total 525 cartons have been recovered from the truck.
The estimated value of the cigarettes is Rs36 million while that of truck is Rs4.0 million.
FIR has been lodged and one person has been arrested. This is the largest seizure of smuggled cigarettes in recent history of the Directorate.
Further investigation is underway to arrest the smuggling network operating in the region.
