KARACHI: The Directorate of Customs Intelligence Quetta under the direction of Shaukat Ali Director General, Customs Intelligence has further stepped up its crackdown on smuggling of goods and vehicles from Afghanistan and Iran.
On the directives of Director Quetta Irfan-ur-Rehman, Deputy Director Inamullah Wazir seized 9 oil tankers carrying 250,000 litres of smuggled Iranian Diesel. The value of seized diesel is approximately Rs. 24 million.
The smugglers were attempting to smuggled diesel from Iran using the route from Panjgoor to Quetta via Surab. Some of the smugglers were using fake / forged invoices of companies posing that the diesel was being brought from Karachi refineries to Quetta. The Directorate is further investigating the matter.
Furthermore, the Customs Intelligence Quetta has seized a total of 14 non duty paid / smuggled vehicles in last few days worth Rs14 million which will be publically auctioned to recover customs duties.
Customs Intelligence Quetta also raided on smuggled goods godowns in the suburbs of Quetta and Mastung and seized large quantity of smuggled goods waiting to be smuggled to Karachi and Punjab in public transport busses.
The goods seized includes whey powder, Tyres, Mobil Oil, Juice cans, lrani confectionery items such as cakes, toffees, biscuits, shampoo, soaps, electrical appliances and scrap. These seized goods value approximately Rs19 million.
The crack down on narcotics is also a high priority for Customs Intelligence Quetta and earlier this month this Directorate seized 285 Kgs high quality Charas attempting to be smuggled in an old Toyota Corolla Car from Chaman to Quetta. The approximate street value of the seized Charas is Rs. 28 million.
It is pointed out that only in November 2016 the Customs Intelligence seized half a million liters of Iranian smuggled Diesel worth Rs. 50 million. Now the Diesel will be auctioned to OMCs and proceeds will be deposited in the Government Exchequer.
