KARACHI: MCC Preventive I&P has secured 7-day remand from Customs Court of three persons who were arrested at Karachi airport a day earlier making an attempt to smuggle out foreign currency and gold.
According to the details of the case, Customs had information that a group of three Pakistani passengers would attempt to smuggle out huge quantity of gold and currency. Customs staff at JIAP Karachi was alerted and three persons were spotted including Muhammad Iqbal, Kulsoom Inrahim and Saima Fazal who had passed through ASF and Customs Search counter without declaring contrabands and currency.
Accordingly personal search of the passengers was conducted which resulted into recovery of foreign currency equivalent to $29740 and gold in bangles 2.35kg. Preliminary inquiry revealed that the both ladies accused belong to a very poor family and accused Muhammed lqbal was the master mind in devising the plan of smuggling of gold in camouflaging the color of gold, foreign currency and used these two accused ladies passenger reportedly under duress and alluring them for little monetary gain.
