KARACHI: The government of Pakistan has imposed 1.0 percent additional customs duty on import of various products. SRO 476(I)/2016 has notified amendments in SRO 1178(I)/2015.
Accordingly, exemption from additional customs duty of 1.0 percent is no more available to machinery, equipment, materials, capital goods, specialized vehicles (4×4 non luxury) i.e. single or double cabin pickups, accessories, spares, chemicals and consumables meant for mine construction phase or extraction phase; Construction machinery, equipment and specialized vehicles, excluding passenger vehicles, imported on temporary basis as required for mine construction or extraction phase.
Additional customs duty at the rate of 1.0 percent is also levied on Coal mining machinery, equipment, spares, including vehicles for site use i.e. single or double cabin pickups imported for Thar Coal Field.
However, Machinery and equipment imported by an industrial concern is exempted from additional customs duty of 1.0 percent.
Machinery and equipment for marble, granite and gem stone extraction and processing industries concern is exempted from additional customs duty of 1.0 percent.
Machinery, equipment and other project related items including capital goods, for setting up of power generation plants, water treatment plants and other infrastructure related projects located in an area of 30 km around the zero point in Gwadar is exempted from additional customs duty of 1.0 percent.
Machinery, equipment and other project related items for setting up of hotels located in an area of 30 km around the zero point in Gwadar is exempted from additional customs duty of 1.0 percent.
Effluent treatment plants have also been exempted from additional customs duty of 1.0 percent.
These amendments shall take effect on and from the 25th day of June, 2016.
