KARACHI: An Appellate bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Justice Muneeb Akhtar and Justice Abdul Malik Gaddi on Wednesday adjourned hearing of two Special Customs Reference Applications (SCRA’s) till May 11.
Today when the application came up for hearing, the bench asked a number of question regarding “Limitation” and directed the counsel for applicant to come prepared on next date of hearing and satisfy the Court that whether the application were hit by Limitation Act.
The SCRA’s pertain to valuation ruling about Soap Noodles which the appellants/importers say is on higher side while the prices have been sliced in international market.
The Customs officials while issuing Valuation Ruling held that when the Soap Noodles are costlier then how their final, finished product (soaps) can be assessed at lower rates. The customs also maintain that while importers importing small consigments are not objecting to the relevant Valuation Ruling while big importers are challenging the same to avoid payment of customs duty, taxes etc. Naveed Ahmed Khan advocate represented the applicants while Director General, Valuation was represented by Masooda Siraj advocate.
