KARACHI: There has been an interesting development in the case regarding recovery of huge quantity of acetic anhydride (chemical used for making heroin and plastic explosives) as the detecting official of the case Examiner Ghulam Abbas has been served an Explanation Notice.
He is advised to explain the reason for dispatching the samples of the consignment despite the fact that he had a device for the purpose of ascertaining the primary specification of the chemicals. This is an interesting scenario as described by the sources as when the Examiner got suspicious about the contents of consignment, he approached his Assistant Collector Maqbool Baloch and they unanimously decided to get the samples tested from the laboratory. Explanation has been called from the Examiner on the instructions of Additional Director Mateen Alam.
Eyebrows are rising as the Investigation Officer (IO) in this case has not been officially appointed as yet. Sources said officials were reluctant to assume such a responsibility, as highly influential quarters are suspected to be somehow involved and IO would need to involve officers in the investigation.
