KARACHI: MCC Appraisement West has lodged FIR and booked several accused for misdeclaring the port of shipment as China instead of actual, UAE to hoodwink the Customs authorities with the ulterior motive.
The FIR has been lodged against M/s AMI Pakistan Private Limited Karachi and M/s Badar Computer Enterprises Karachi.
According to the details of the case, M/s Badar Computer Enterprises Karachi imported three consignments and filed separate Goods Declarations for clearance thereof while declaring content of consignments as Textile Fabric.
Meanwhile, credible information was received to Collector Appraisement West Agha Jawad that Indian fabric was being illegally imported in Pakistan via Dubai. Indian fabric (printed/grey) is banned to be imported in Pakistan. This fabric is dumped in Duabi and then imported in Pakistan by misdeclaring the port of shipment as China.
He formed a team comprising Additional Collector Khalil Yousafani, Deputy Collector Ghulam Nabi Kamboh, Appraising Officers Zulfiqar Zaman and Irshad Ahmed. It was reported that all the three consignments are actually being imported from UAE instead China. In order to confirm the veracity of the information, all three consignments were put on hold in the computer system of the Collectorate for detailed scrutiny physical examination of contents of the consignments as well as relevant import documents including invoice, packing list and Bill of Lading.
M/s AMI Pakistan Pvt Ltd Karachi issued the bill of ladings bearing the name of M/s Shaoxing Changfang Textile Company, China” as consignor and M/s Badar Computer Enterprises Karachi as the consignee and port of loading as China.
Whereas, M/s United Marine Agencies Karachi issued the Master Bills of Lading showing the contents thereof as M/s AMI Middle East LLC Dubai, UAE as consignor and M/s AMI Karachi as consignee and port of shipment as Dubai.
During the course of detailed scrutiny of relevant import documents, it has been found that all the three consignments were imported vide vessel namely “MV Hyundai Confidence whose Shipping Line are happened to be M/s United Marine Agencies, Pvt Ltd Karachi.
However, they further handed over these consignments to a sub-agent/freight forwarder M/s. AMI Pakistan Karachi, who electronically fed the information within the Import General Manifest (IGM) with regard to port of shipments of the goods China. Whereas, the goods were actually shipped from UAE.
One accused has been arrested and investigations are underway.
