KARACHI: MCC Preventive has widened the ambit of investigation in the case where thousands of containers and military equipment were recovered from two warehouses in Karachi. Customs expert have started inspecting the details/numbers of containers, if they had been tempered with.

It is being ascertained whether these containers were missing of forward transit or reverse cargo of NATO/ISAF and US Army. It is also being investigated whether these containers are of those consignments which were stopped to be transported after attack on Salala Check Post.

It is also being ascertained if these containers belonged to shipping companies or are shipper-owned containers.

The representatives of M/s Bilal Associates have been called to justify presence of these containers and goods at their warehouses.

Judge Customs & Taxation Court Justice Faiz Rasool Rashdi has taken a suo moto action under Section 185 of Customs Act and advised the ASO MCC Preventive to submit a detailed report, which would be presented before the judge on Monday morning.

MCC Preventive raided and sealed two warehouses in Karachi, where the containers of NATO/ISAF/US Army cargo were being scrapped. Moreover, large quantity of military  equipment and parts of military machines.

Both the warehouses one in Bhains Colony and one in Mauripur owned by M/s Bilal Associated have been sealed. Source said scores of containers, which were being used for transportation of NATO/ISAF/US Army reverse cargo were present at these warehouses and the same were being scrapped.

The investigations into the pilferage of US Army/Nato/ISAF cargo in Pakistan have unveiled astonishing as well as alarming aspects, which make it even a sensitive case.

This development raises a big question mark on the claims of Afghan authorities and representatives of USA that none of their containers ever went missing. It is interesting to note that Government of Pakistan and Pakistan Customs has never received even a single complaint that any of US Army/ NATO/ISAF container went missing or was pilfered.
