KARACHI: MCC Appraisement East has approached Chief Collector Appraisement South seeking approval to lodge an FIR against M/s Fazal Elahi & Sons-Lahore under Section 32, as the company was found to have committed a fiscal fraud.
Earlier, MCC Appraisement West recovered an amount of Rs63.113 million, which the importer evaded through suppressing actual value of imported consignments.
M/s Fazal Elahi & Sons-Lahore opened letter of credit (LC) and remitted the amount but at the time of declaration, they did not declared the number of LCs and the amount thereof on the GD to avoid higher value/taxes.
On confrontation, the importer admitted that they had cleared a number of consignments on lower value than the actual value transected through LCs. Imported admitted 29 such consignments cleared through MCC Appraisement West, 20 cleared through MCC Appraisement East and 8 consignments on suppressed values were cleared through MCC Port Qasim.
Member Customs Nasir Masroor has advised Collector Appraisement West Agha Jawwad, Collector Port Qasim Surayya Ahmed Butt, Collector Appraisement East Majid Yousafani and Collector Preventive Tariq Huda to scrutinize all goods declaration filed without LC and tally the same with banks whether there were any revenue leakage. Majid Yousafani would likely coordinate with the central bank in this regard.
It is expected that this scrutiny of record would unearth huge revenue leakage and cases would be established.
Nasir Masroor has advised Director Reforms & Automation Dr. Fareed Iqbal Qureshi to make arrangements to connect WeBOC system with banks and such GDs could be verified real time. Majid Yousafani would cooperate in developing the module. Yousafani is a competent officer and has the credit of developing the module connecting customs with central bank to verify the authenticity of Form-E in a record time.
