KARACHI: There is no let up in the clandestine removal of goods off transshipment consignments as Customs Intelligence has found six more containers, which were pilfered during transit. According to details, Customs Intelligence on the directives of Director General inspected six containers lying idle at Peshawar dry port for a couple of months.

The examination found that four of these were stuffed with sacks of mud. It is interesting to note that these consignments were lying at MCC Appraisement West for six months but they were allowed TP in violation of rules. After being moved to Peshawar, these were lying there for a couple of months. It has not been ascertained what were the contents of these containers but it is suspected that some contrabands may be arms and ammunition’s was pilfered into the hands of unscrupulous elements.

Sources confirmed the involvement of shipping company, bonded Carrier and importer in this ordeal. It may be mentioned that over hundred consignments are known to be pilfered during transshipment and approximately Rs10 million of duty and taxes were evaded on each consignment. It is suspected that this money is funding terrorist and anti-state activities.

Director Cutstoms Intelligence Peshawar Asghar Khan, Additional Director Ziaullah Shams and Deputy Director Khayal Mohammad have played an exceptional role in detecting and curbing the entire ordeal.
