KARACHI: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has split the existing jurisdiction of the Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation – FBR (Customs) into two directorates i.e. I&I Customs Enforcement and I&I Customs Anti-smuggling.

The Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation – FBR (Customs Enforcement) would perform anti-evasion work and monitoring of Customs clearances and other related matters in the jurisdiction of Model Customs Collectorate (Appraisement-West), Karachi; Model Customs Collectorate (Appraisement-East), Karachi; Model Customs Collectorate (Preventive), Karachi; Model Customs Collectorate (Port Qasim), Karachi;  Model Customs Collectorate, Hyderabad; Model Customs Collectorate (Exports), Custom House, Karachi and Model Customs Collectorate, (Exports) Port Qasim, Karachi.

The Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation-FBR (Customs Anti-Smuggling), Karachi would perform anti-smuggling and preventive related work in the jurisdiction of Model Customs Collectorate (Preventive), Karachi; Model Customs Collectorate, Hyderabad and Model Customs Collectorate (Port Qasim), Karachi.

The respective offices and officers of the Directorate General of Intelligence & Investigation-FBR shall continue to function, exercise powers and discharge duties under section 3A of the Customs Act, 1969 read with section 3E ibid, notifications and instructions issued there under.

It may recalled that Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) has announced 200 BS-16 vacancies for Inspectors and Customs Intelligence Officers. Sources said that these officers are being recruited to meet the human resource requirements of Customs I&I.

Led by Lutfullah Virk Customs I&I is doing a remarkable job and has succeeded in limiting smuggling as well as revenue leakage.
