KARACHI: The Directorate of Post Clearance Audit (Customs) has advised the M/s New Allied Electronics to submit Rs39.456 million in the national exchequer as it was short paid by the company on the import of certain consignments of Q Mobile cellular phones.

The Audit found that M/s New Allied imported “Q Brand GSM Mobile Phones” under PCT heading 8517.1210 and got cleared their goods without payment of statutory rote of Income Tax which was payable at the rate of 5.0 percent instead of 1.0 percent.

The mobile phones ore finished product requiring no manufacturing /processing and do not qualify the description as raw material.

PCA Customs has advised M/s New Allied electronics to deposit the short levied amount in the national exchequer. However, in case they are of the opinion that the above finding is incorrect or that the short paid amount has been erroneously calculated or it has already been deposited, they may provide a self-explanatory written reply with viable documentary evidences and complete set of import documents.
