KARACHI: Directorate of Customs Intelligence & Investigation-FBR has sent cases to adjudicating authorities as importers misused statutory regulatory order (SRO 1125) and unearthed evasion of Rs775 million for short payment of duty/taxes.
According to details received by the customnews.pk, the total evasion of customs duty, sales tax and withholding tax have been observed from December 31, 2011.
However, under SRO 1125 concession is granted to the importer/unit those who availed manufacturing status.
To recover the evaded amount, cases have been sent to the adjudicating authorities for taking legal actions by Directorate of Customs Intelligence, Karachi.
“All such import consignments were cleared from different ports of Model Customs Collectorate Appraisement (East), Apprasiement (West) and Port Qasim having total worth of Rs3000 million, ,” customs officials reported.
Director General, Intelligence & Investigation-FBR, Islamabad has said that a number of importers misused SRO 1125 in the import of fabric/yarn which causes loss of revenue to the national kitty.
On reports, in-depth scrutiny and inquiry of their past clearance revealed that the fabric/yarn SRO 1125 of 2011 is being illegally used by importers to evade duty/taxes.
On further investigation of Inland Revenue Wing-FBR, it had been found that such importer units are non-existent and were causing loss of revenue to government.
Customs officials mentioned that previously during the month of April-May 2014 Rs576 million evasion of duty and taxes were detected.
Customs Intelligence Karachi said that duties and taxes amounting to Rs225 million were being evaded on account of mis-declaration of value and misuse of SRO.
