KARACHI: The customs valuation of sodium lauryl ether sulphate has been fixed at $1.35 per kilogram on import of all destinations, sources told Customnews.pk on Wednesday.
The valuation of the product, however, has been fixed at $1.25/kg and $1.3/kg for import from China and India, respectively.
Customs sources said that the valuation of the items had been revised after noticing a considerable increase in price of the product in the international market.
Before revising the customs value, the customs authorities held a meeting on September 09, 2014 with stakeholders including M/s Tufail Chemical and Surfactants (Pvt) Limited Karachi, Pakistan Chemical and Dyes Merchants Association, importers along with members of Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry and Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The sources said that Pakistan Chemicals and Dyes Merchants Association and FPCCI also made recommendations regarding the valuation of the item.
It is agreed that in cases where declared values are higher than the Customs value determined under the new valuation, the assessing officer would apply those value in terms of sub-section of Section 25 of the Customs Act, 1969. In case of consignments imported by air, the assessing officer will take into account of differential between air freight and sea freight while applying the customs values.
