KARACHI: Pakistan Customs has determined the customs values for contact lenses of without power up to $3 per pair for collection of duty and taxes.
On Wednesday, Directorate General of Customs Valuation has issued the fresh valuation ruling No 681/2014 for contact lenses (without power) of China, Korea, UK and USA origin, as importers filed revision petition.
In this regard, Director General issued Order-in-Revision on March 28, 2014 whereby the case was remanded to the director, customs valuation, Karachi for re-determination of customs valuation of the said good.
The customs values for China origin are included:
Contact lenses (without power) 1-day disposable will be assessed at $0.50 per pair.
Contact lenses (without power) monthly to three months disposable will be assessed at $1 per pair.
Contact lenses (without power) yearly disposable will be assessed at $2 per pair.
The customs values for Korea origin are included:
Contact lenses (without power) 1-day disposable will be assessed at $0.75 per pair.
Contact lenses (without power) monthly to three months disposable will be assessed at $1.50 per pair.
Contact lenses (without power) yearly disposable will be assessed at $2.50 per pair.
The customs values for UK and USA origin are included:
Contact lenses (without power) 1-day disposable will be assessed at $0.90 per pair.
Contact lenses (without power) monthly to three months disposable will be assessed at $1.80 per pair.
Contact lenses (without power) yearly disposable will be assessed at $3 per pair.
Meetings were held with stakeholders including representatives of Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) and Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) for determination of values of the said good.
If declared values are higher than the customs value determined in this ruling, the assessing officer shall apply those values.
In case of consignment imported by air, the assessing officer shall take into account the differential between air freight and sea freight while applying the customs values determined in this ruling.
A revision petition may be filed against this ruling within 30 days from the date of issue before the Director General, Directorate General of Customs Valuation.
According to notification, deductive value method was applied to assessed the customs values of contact lenses (without power) however; market enquiry was also conducted along with representatives of MCC-Appraisement (East/West), MCC PMBQ and MCC Preventive (AFU), Karachi.
