KARACHI: As the Finance Bill 2014 has left an ambiguity announcing promotion of superintendents of Grade-16 into Grade-17 and leaving the principal appraisers, who are also in Grade-16, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is reportedly going to issue a clarification that principal appraisers would also be upgraded.
Finance Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar announced in his budget speech that superintends in Grade-16 would be upgraded into Grade-17 and a notification in this regard has also been issued, but the principal appraisers who are also in the same cadre were not mentioned.
Sources said that to address this confusion, FBR is going to announce promotion of Principal Appraisers into Grade-17 also in a couple of days. However, these promotees are not given Class-I officer status and they would be sub-ordinates to Assistant Collectors and Assistant Commissioners of Grade-17.
Superintendents and Principal Appraisers are of the view that their postings should be on the pattern of Police where either ASP (Grade-17) or a DSP (Grade-17) is posted to fill a position. These promotee officers are considering approaching court in this regard.
