KARACHI: The Revenue Division has imposed quite lofty federal excise duty (FED) on locally produced cigarettes to be collected on fixed basis.
According to SRO No. 422(I)/2014 issued by Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), the rate of duty would be Rs2,632 per thousand cigarettes on locally produced cigarettes if their on-pack printed retail price exceeds Rs2,706 per thousand cigarettes, this translates into Rs2.632 per cigarette.
The rate of duty would be Rs1,085 per thousand cigarettes on locally produced cigarettes if their on-pack printed retail price does not exceed Rs2,706 per thousand cigarettes, this translates into Rs1.085 per cigarette.
