KARACHI: MCC Peshawar has foiled a bid to smuggle satellite digital receivers and foreign origin cloth into the country and seized goods worth millions of rupees.

Information was received through Collector Peshawar Gul Rehman that smuggled goods would be transported from FATA to Punjab through a containerized trailer. Subsequently, Additional Collector Yousuf Haider Orakzai and Deputy Collector Fazl-e-Shakoor formed a team led by Superintendent Syed Nasir Bukhari.

The mobile team spotted the suspected vehicle on G.T Road, however the driver abandoned the vehicle and escaped. The examination of the container led to recovery of foreign origin cloth and satellite digital receivers. An FIR has been lodged and investigations are underway.

Pakistan Customs is pursuing an anti-smuggling campaign, therefore MCC Peshawar and MCC Quetta have turned focus on this menace. Collector Peshawar Gul Rehman has assigned Deputy Collector Fazl-e-Shakoor, a highly competent and reputed officer, to lead the anti-smuggling division.
