KARACHI: An appellate bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Justice Munib Akhtarand Justice Yousuf Ali Sayeed allowed provisional release of a consignment of toilet soap after payment of custom duty and taxes and depositing security in respect of dispute amount of custom duty.

The bench earlier heard Talal Tariq Khursheed advocate of Franklin Law Associates representing Global Trade Links, Karachi who relied upon an order passed by this court in a CP 4790 of 2016 dated 9-9-2016 wherein the consignment was released on provisional basis. The issue in dispute was determination of custom duty on the basis of guideline issued by Deputy Director, Valuation which is on higher side. The petitioners also question the jurisdiction and power of the said officer for issuance of a guideline.

More than 200 identical petitions are fixed for hearing on April 17, the counsel submitted before the bench.
The bench while applying the same to this petition also ordered fixing the same with identical petitions/bunch on April 17.
