KARACHI: The Inspector General Sindh Ghulam Hyder Jamali, CCPO Ghulam Qadir Thebo, DIG South Dr Jameel, DIG Feroz Shah, SSP South Choudhry Asad and five other high ranking police officers were charged with contempt of court here on Tuesday by a division bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Justice Ahmed Ali M Sheikh and Justice Syed Farooq Shah.

The alleged contemnors have pleaded not guilty and have tendered unconditional apology which was rejected by the court and court went ahead today by framing a charge against them. The contempt was made when in May this year, Karachi police blocked the main gate of the High Court of Sindh as Zulfiqar Mirza, a former PPP leader reached the court to surrender before Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) III for Karachi division which was seized with hearing of a bail application by Mirza.

The policemen with muffled faces first arrested the private security guards of Dr Zulfiqar Mirza and later pounced upon journalists from print and electronic media covering the “commando action”  by Karachi police.

The court has taken the cognizance of a report by registrar also who told the court in writing that police has blocked the entire area making it impossible for any one to enter or leave the court.

The court has asked several questions regarding the police action but same were not answered till date including the most pertinent question that on whose order or command police acted/committed the contempt of court by lowering the dignity of the court.
