KARACHI: The Collectorate Intelligence Unit (CIU) of MCC Port Qasim has lodged an FIR against an importer for under-declaring the goods and thus attempting to evade duty and taxes.

According to details of the case, M/s Good Luck Cosmetics imported a consignment declared to contain glass beads (224 ctns) and nuts & bolts (723 Ctns) for the clearance thereof.

In pursuant to information received regarding gross mis-declaration in the actual description and value, of the imported goods, the consignment was re-examined by the staff of CIU and the examination staff.

Additional Collector Saeed Akram had this information that some unscrupulous elements were attempting to evade duty and taxes through mis-declaration. He sought approval from Collector MCC Port Qasim, Surayya Ahmed Butt for proceedings and tasked the CIU team headed by Assistant Collector Falik Sher to pursue the case.

Goods were examined and found to be consisted of Glass Beads assorted size weighing 650 kgs, Glass Beads weighing 350 kgs, Adhesive Plastic Chittons / resins Approx Net Weight 2800 kgs, Adhesive Glass Chittons Approx Net Weight 1100 kgs, Assorted Motor Cycle Parts Approx Net Weight 19500 kgs instead of vague and incomplete declared description “Glass Beads Quantity 224 Ctns and Nuts & Bolts 723 Ctns.

Had this offence gone undetected there would be colossal loss to the national exchequer to the tune of Rs2.832 million.

Efforts are being made to locate and arrest the nominated accused person, meanwhile FIR is being lodged and investigation is in progress.
