KARACHI: MCC Quetta has seized large quantity of smuggled goods in an operation conducted with assistance of FC on Chaman-Quetta road.
In pursuance of credible information received by the Collector of Customs, which was communicated through the Assistant Collector Preventive that an attempt of smuggling of foreign origin smuggled goods would be made through truck from Chaman to Quetta.
Accordingly, Customs stuff signaled to stop a truck near Jalogeer area. The driver of the truck accelerated the speed of the truck and tried to escape, however the Customs staff got the vehicle but drivers escaped.
The vehicle was found to be stuffed with various foreign origin goods including blankets, auto parts and tyres worth Rs.18.53 million. the goods were and seized along with the vehicle.
Chief Collector Enforcement Zahid Khokhar, Collector Preventive Tariq Huda Collector Customs Quetta and Customs Intelligence & Investigation as per the FBR’s strategy is pursuing a rigorous anti-smuggling campaign as money made from smuggling is prime source of funding terrorists and anti-social elements. Smuggling also inflict irreparable loss to the national economy.
As the efforts of the authorities have been quite successful and smuggling is limited to a large extent, the prime beneficiaries of this dirty business are trying to defame Customs and para-military forces.
Central traders alliance of Balochitsan has been protesting against the anti-smuggling operations and even demanded transfer of Collector Quetta along with withdrawal of anti-smuggling powers from FC.
However, the authorities have not succumbed to these tactics and the anti-smuggling is continuing. Customs I&I team Karachi made remarkable progress against the smuggling of plastic dana, however on pressure the said team was transferred.
In an interesting event, Collector Appeal Dr. Zulfiqar Malik in a case of plastic dana on which millions of rupees of evasion was established by Adjudication decided the case in favor of importer without giving Customs I&I giving the opportunity of hearing. Moreover DG I&I did not even go for appeal against the order.
