KARACHI: The leaders of the United Business Group (UBG) President Mr. Zubair Tufail, Chairman sindh zone Mr. Khalid Tawab, Secretary General (sindh) Mr. Hanif Gohar and Former SVP of FPCCI Mr. Syed Mazher Ali Nasir have expressed their utter dismay and astonishment at the deplorable state of Karachi’s infrastructure, exposed by the recent heavy rainfall. The downpour has laid bare the city’s poor structural foundation and neglectful maintenance, causing widespread destruction and chaos.
The roads, the lifeblood of the city, have been reduced to a network of potholes and craters, making commuting a hazardous task. The sewerage system, already in shambles, has been further compromised, posing serious health risks to citizens. The situation is particularly dire near government hospitals, where ambulances are struggling to navigate the treacherous roads, putting lives at risk.
The UBG leaders have called upon the Chief Minister Sindh, and Mayor of Karachi to take immediate and decisive action to repair the roads and restore the city’s infrastructure. They demand that the authorities prioritize the immediate repair of roads, particularly around government hospitals, to ensure safe passage for ambulances and patients, overhaul of the sewerage system to prevent further damage and health hazards, increased investment in infrastructure development and maintenance to prevent such disasters in the future.
“The recent downpour has only exacerbated the existing infrastructure woes of Karachi,” said UBG Leaders”. It is the responsibility of the authorities to ensure the city’s infrastructure is resilient and well-maintained. We demand swift action to address these issues and alleviate the suffering of the citizens,” leaders added.
The UBG leaders have also urged the government to take a long-term view and invest in sustainable infrastructure development, rather than relying on quick fixes. They emphasized that the economic growth and prosperity of Karachi depend on a robust and well-maintained infrastructure.
